Frequently asked questions
- What is Routepedia?
- Routepedia is a Pokémon maps database, and the only site that gives every Pokémon game an interactive map of its region: open one, click any place on it, and see what is there: the wild Pokémon, the items, the hidden items, the trainers and their teams.
- Is Routepedia free?
- Yes, and there is nothing to sign up for. Open a map and use it.
- Which Pokémon games are covered?
- Twenty games across five generations: Red, Blue and Yellow; Gold, Silver and Crystal; Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen; Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver; and Black, White, Black 2 and White 2.
- Why does the same region look different on different games?
- The region gets redrawn every generation. Kanto in Red is grey Game Boy tiles and Kanto in HeartGold is a 3D world, and what lives in the grass changes along with the art. That is why every game has its own map here rather than sharing one.
- Can I see where a specific Pokémon is?
- The Pokémon Locator does exactly that. Pick a species and you get every location it appears in across all twenty games, with how you catch it there and what level it turns up at.
- Are hidden items on the maps?
- Hidden items are marked as well as the visible balls, on the tile you find them on. Trainers carry their full team with levels, and gym leaders appear on their town's page.
- Does it work on a phone?
- The maps pan and zoom on touch the same way they do with a mouse, and there is nothing to install.
